Hand tools ok to cut half-lap joints in 2x4 material?

phelansmomApril 23, 2011

I am building raised garden beds. Found a plan I really like that uses half lap joints for the corners plus rebar or pins in the corners for extra stability.

I only have a circular saw and power drill and most instructions are for table or radial saws.

Is it possible to use only a tenon saw and chisel to complete this project an 2x4 redwood material?

People worked with wood for thousands of years before the advent of electricity.

A quick Google search turned up a video that uses a circular saw to save some time. No reason you couldn't use a hand saw instead. There's a You Tube video using a hand saw here.

Or set the circular saw to the correct depth, make repeated cuts, and then clan up with a chisel.
