Using putty with copper

altavistapamSeptember 16, 2009

I have a copper frame on my piece-in-progress, and plan to use copper patina on the lead came and solder. What can I use to make the best of the copper look? Some kind of polish? The patina doesn't match the real copper, of course.

The putty I was given is black. I think I need to putty it as the piece will go in a transom window above a door and must be tight, not for weather as it will be hung inside but due to rattling from opening and closing the door.

But black putty will be very obvious if the rest is coppery. Do I have an alternative?

Thanks for any tips.

Maybe you could patina the copper with a black tint. I've bought black tint patina from HD. Brand name is Modern Options. I think you have to do another color first, then the black reacts the whatever was put on before, like green or even copper...
