How to fix broken cord in double-hung window?

cityscape23August 7, 2009

We have a large picture window in our dining room, with a double-hung window on each side. They are Pella windows, possibly circa 1968 when the house was built but look much newer. One of the double-hungs just broke, and a cord is showing. Our Pella "expert" told us those aren't made any more and we need a new window or hold it up with a stick. But if I replace this window I'll have to do the matching one on the other side too. Is there any way to fix it?

Don't know what type of balance yoour windows have but CRL probably has a replacement balance and they can refer you to a dealer. Follow the link below

Thanks ccecilm. I'll give them a call. It would be great if someone could repair this.

Also appreciate your link for a casement lock, although it's not the one in these windows - those seem to have vanished off the face of the earth.
