I've been away from woodworking too long. Can someone please tell me how many teeth should be on a 10" blade, maybe an 8", too?
It depends on what you're going to do with the blade. A dedicated rip blade may have as few as 24 teeth while a fine cross cut blade may have 80 teeth. Combination blades fall in the middle with 40-50 teeth.
And use carbide tipped blades.
While they cost a little more, they maintain an edge longer than the old steel blades.
Fine Woodworking & Wood magazine run blade tests periodically.
Freud, CMT, Amana, Oldham, Forrest, and many others all make decent blades.
A few are better (grind, plate tensioning, etc.).
& my fingers don't work either. I would have sworn I asked about ripping blades! DUH!
