Need Help Please

mzclassicSeptember 25, 2009

I bought two brand new service trays at the thrift store. These are wood with brown leather over them. Is is possible to mosaic the inside of the trays and do I have to do anything special to the leather other than clean with alcohol real good? Any help would be appreciated.

Donna, I don't know for sure, but I am going to chime in here and say Yes. If the leather is secure to the wood (is it glued?) and doesn't more around. I have used leather as tesserae before and had no problems. Example, I did a picture frame with turquoise and silver pieces and then wound a braided leather bolo through the other pieces and it grouted beautifully, the grout didn't crack and it worked fine.

Thanks Silva, yes it looks like it is secured real well. They are such pretty trays and has a nice gold inlay around the outside. I'm gonna give it a try I think.
