I am rehabbing an old house and am replacing 30 yr old aluminum single pane glass replacement windows that are sitting in the frame of old pocket and sash window frames.
My walls are presently gutted to the studs so it will be easy to reclaim some vertical width by getting rid of the weight channels. I was also thinking of getting rid of the old sills and installing the new replacement windows (Viwinco Cambridge) directly on the sill plates thus gaining about 3 inches of height. I will be putting on new exterior trim and capping it to finish.
I have gotten conflicting advice on the sills....some saying I will have no issues doing it this way and others saying its not a good idea. Insulation should not be an issue as i am spray foaming the walls and will touch up around the windows with low-rise foam. Any thoughts on this would be helpful!
