How to select window size

AJinNHJuly 18, 2013

I'm hoping that someone can help me with selecting the right window size.

We are renovating a kitchen that involves an addition. The design has a window over the sink at 90" wide (finished size). I'm looking at putting in a center picture window with a casement on either side. The RO height is 39 5/8" if that matters.

Is the total RO size an adequate measurement to use to determine a proper fit, and would this take into account the frame around the window? If not, what is the best/safest way to determine the right size?

The windows that I'm considering have separate dimensions for the casements and another for the center picture window. They would be assembled and shipped as one unit.

Any advice is greatly appreciated! Thank you.

You would submit the RO size to the manufacturer and they would make the unit with their recommended cut back once they clarify the size with you.

My recommendation would be to try and stay with standard sizes but if you have to customize it and you have a three wide unit, have the flankers be standard size and customize the center picture window. This will help with cost.

Deduct 3/4" on width and height and should be good.

That R.O. height is about right for a standard kitchen counter and back splash. If you are going with a taller than normal back splash then you may want to deduct the appropriate amount off the height of the window so that the window will still be above the back splash.
