Oil in bare wood

jkayd_il5March 22, 2012

Hi everyone,

Yesterday I found a solid oak kitchen table at Goodwill for $25.00. The leaves are missing but it's still a good deal. It looks like it was in a garage and used as a work bench.

My husband started sanding the top this morning. It has several distressed marks but they don't bother me much, gives it character. A big burn mark sanded out and I can't see where it was. The problem is some kind of oil was spilled on it. We really would like to get that out. Do you have any ideas. Thanks.

Whiting powder and gentle heat.

It can take a long time.

Any solvent will only allow the oil to spread deeper.
