simulated divided lights or grilles between glass

pmksisJuly 26, 2011

Hi everyone, We are about to demolish a cottage on a lake and build a shingle/craftsman style home. We are considering Marvin Ultimate and Anderson 400 Series. We are leaning toward Marvin because the window with simulated divided lights is more in line with the design of the house. However, everyone is telling us what a pain they will be to clean. We generally clean our windows maybe once a year but hire it done. Our home will be approx 4500 square feet. So do I go with keeping the design authentic or the easy to clean? Hoping someone out there has had experience with this! Thanks!

I'd take a look at self-cleaning glass. It doesn't mean you will never have to clean the glass, but it really does make a big difference in how often.

Cleaning windows with SDLs is not the hardest thing in the world, just not as easy as cleaning windows with GBG.

Self-Cleaning glass is a nice addition and usually not that expensive.

Is the look of SDLs to maintain the interior look or the exterior look.

We rarely see them specified on all four sides of the home as they are a pretty expensive option.
