Where the heck is the hidden compartment???

soozFebruary 2, 2009

You'll see a couple of photos of my "new" old desk at the link below.

The sister of the guy we got it from said that it used to belong to a couple of people she knew, and there was a hidden compartment. She didn't know if it was a drawer or little cubby or what. She is going to try and track them down to see if they remember anything.

I have been over the desk, inside and out, pressing, sliding, and pushing and I sure cannot find anything. I'll be the first to admit I'm not a detective ha ha.

Any ideas or suggestions??

Thanks in advance!

Smiles,

Sooz

A drawer may have a false back or bottom. There may be a hidden till at the rear of the desktop. Usually antique desks have a secret drawer (or two) that is disguised as a decorative feature. Your desk reminds me of similar that were carried by Sturbridge Yankee Workshop in the 70's.

That desk is not "old"...I'll bet dollars to doughnuts that there is no secret compartment.

Thanks, Casey, for the suggestions.

Lindac, I know it's not "old old" or an antique, but from what I've found out on the web, even newer desks are likely to have a secret or hidden compartment.
