New Construction without sills

GRVLgalJune 4, 2012

I am building a new home and I don't care for the new "flush" look of modern windows on the outside. I really like the old look with the window sills. Is this a thing of the past? If I choose brick or stone as the exterior, I may get a sill. The house construction is 2X6. Will modern new construction windows work with a outside sill? Thanks in advance for your advice.

I would make a make a fake sill that is applied on top of the sheathing just like the casing. I am with you, I hate picture framed windows. Maybe put in a stone or cast stone sill, I think that would look good with brick or stone.

You can create the sill look but be sure to do so out of PVC or other Azek/composite.

I also like the sill look and a precast stone/concrete sill would also work.

Thank you do much for the advice. I like the stone sill idea. The house is partially stone anyway.
