Butcher Block Help

mdevineJanuary 23, 2012

I need a butcher block/counter that would be about 84x26. This counter will only be used for kids to do homework, maybe eat breakfast, work on computer, etc.

I was thinking of a cherry wood.

Any ideas what I would be best off getting so it does not get to ruined by the kids writing on paper on the counter or get water stains from cups.

I was thinking of getting something with a conversion varnish. Or maybe the varnique finish from boos.

Any thoughts?

Cherry is relatively soft for a kitchen counter.

It can be dented by writing on paper on the counter with a ball point pen.

You could try the Butcher Block Company's Website or the cheapest option (IMO) is to get a Craftsman worktop. Try Craigslist or Ebay first to see if anyone is selling an old one.
