kitchen wall outlets - GFI ?

dan1554February 17, 2011

I know kitchen counter outlets must be GFI protected, but what about a wall outlet, that does not have a counter under it, and is 8 feet from the sink? It is my understanding that this outlet does not require GFI protection. Is this correct?

That is correct. If it's not a receptacle serving a countertop area and more than 6' from the edge of a sink, it needs not be GFCI.
