Shade help requested

milieu_sereneJune 1, 2010

We have essentially completed construction of our farm house. It is near Vidalia, Georgia, approximately 80 miles west of Savannah, GA.

We have LOTS of windows (double paned) with 4'x6' windows in the all season room. Above those windows we have large glass windows which are commercial grade, insulated, with a special tinting (can't remember what it is).

Even so, we still get a more heat through those windows that I want in the late spring to early fall.

I suspect we will have a similar issue with the master bedroom which you will be able to see as the black roof south center of the house.

Please see the aerial of the house in this picture. NORTH is UP in this photo.

On the SW "back" of the house is a 10' porch with roof which shades the windows of that bedroom. It is significantly cooler than the all season room.

You can see the windows I am talking about in these photos:

These are the master BR which receive the afternoon sun. From 2009-08-09 Shorty finished back gables & Picture Windows

I have considered building a pergola to shade those windows.

I have considered building a shed roof over them.

I have considered simply getting blinds for the windows.

What do you recommend?

Sun Setter easy shade window shades. We installed them on our house in eastern washington and they significantly reduced our AC bill.
