Securing Marvin Integrity windows

reneophyteMay 11, 2010

Does anyone know of a good way to secure new construction Marvin Integrity windows to the RO/framing? I have secured the units in place via nailing fins, and they are all level, plumb, and shimmed. I'd like to send screws through the jambs at the shim locations, but I see nothing in the instructions that mentions this. Doesn't look like going behind the weather stripping as an option, as I don't want to go through the steel track and potentially hinder window operation.

Would through-jamb installation void my warranty? Does anyone have experience with the optimal place for securing these units through the jambs?

Any info would be appreciated greatly.

Nailing fin should be sufficient.

If you have access to the interior RO framing, I would inject some low expansion foam in the jamb and head cavities and would will be surprised how much that helps with the structure.

Thanks very much for the response. I talked with a window guy on Saturday who told me the same. Weird how the awning windows have much more space between the jambs and RO than the double-hungs. They feel solid in the openings...I just wanted to be 100% sure before injecting the foam and putting up drywall and trim. Thanks again.
