Windows too old?

storyofmylifeMay 20, 2012

Hi all

We're finally building our house, and the builder suggestions are coming fast and furious!

The house plan/budget calls for reusing 14 old Anderson 200 series windows, along with purchasing new windows (Anderson 400 series) for the front of the house.

The builder said that the weatherstripping and glazing on our "to be reused" windows are antiquated, and suggested that we replace them with Anderson 100 series windows for the most affordable product. The windows are about 9 years old and I installed them myself.

When the windows were on the house, we had no issues with them. My question is whether we should replace these windows with new windows?

As a side note, if we were to replace the windows as suggested, I would make all the windows (back of the house, front of the house) the same line (either 400s, or another brand - perhaps Sierra Pacifics, or some other equivalent).

9 yr old 400's would be better than brand new 100's and in my opinion better than Sierra Pacific. I would look into Integrity by Marvin as a much better choice.
