Replacement windows for EIFS/Dryvit

wjp007April 3, 2012

I have a 15 year old Dryvit house in the Chicago suburbs with casement windows. I believe it was installed properly with the Weep Screed since I don't have any moisture problems. After getting estimates for windows I have been given three different installation methods and trying to determine the best one.

1) Cut between nailing flange and window to remove old window. Add new replacement window and caulk between window and dryvit.

2) Cut out dryvit, remove nailing flange and install new window with nailing flange and put new dryvit trim to cover the opening

3) Insert new replacement window leaving old frame in place

I am leaning towards number 2. I really don't like the idea of caulk filling a gap between my window and the dryvit. Number 3 seems safe, but will reduce my window area from the new insert.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
