One nailer to do it all?

reneophyteApril 13, 2010

I am thinking of investing in an air compressor and nailer for some remodeling work. To the uninitiated, the options are overwhelming. I've read some buyer's guides, but still am not clear if I need 2 different nailers or could get by with one...

- Built-ins, closets, trim (interior and exterior), etc.

- Cedar shingles on exterior.

Could a finishing nailer, say 15 gauge, be used for both applications? I anticipate doing lots of finishing work down the road, but only re-siding the exterior of my home once. Would I be better off renting a roofing/siding nailer for the week of siding work? The shingles will be installed on 5/8 plywood w/ 15lb felt paper.

Thanks in advance for your help!
