Need window selection advice

ForestLivingApril 29, 2013

We are trying to figure out which windows we should select for our home.

We currently have dark bronze aluminum frame slider windows that are not trimmed. That is, the drywall wraps around the window opening. We are going to slowly replace our windows, but are starting with the kitchen area, as this is our first remodel project in this house. We are likely to use new construction rather than replacement windows. We live in the SF Bay Area.

Our wish list is:
Windows with exteriors that are easy to clean from the interior. I know there are double hung windows that tilt in for cleaning, but are there sliders where both sides slide/neither side is fixed?

We like the low profile look of our aluminum windows, but we don't feel wedded to aluminum frame windows. That being said, the Andersen windows we put into our previous home were beautiful, but required a trim, which we don't want, and have too much visible window frame for the look of our home.

Some of our windows are very large and I am guessing that we have to stick with a slider format.

Thank you!

Most sliders will allow both panels to operate, however very few offer a tilt in feature. Even those that do are not at the top of my list as the inevitably seem to leak air and have service issues.
Whether or not you can get it installed without trim will depend on the installation style, not the choice of product.

+1 to HomeSealed comments.

Sliders are cleaned pretty simply by just pulling the panels inside via lifting them up and out of the tracks.
