Code question 110V Washer / Dryer receptical

sailJanuary 25, 2010

Hi all,

A friend of mine wants to add a gas dryer next to her washer. The previous one was electric w/220V. The receptical on the wall in the basement has a single receptical for just the washer.

Is there anything wrong (code wise) with putting a double receptical in there to accomodate both the washer and dryer or does each need its own circuit or receptical for some reason?

Many thanks!

You can either swap the single receptacle for a duplex or tap that circuit for an additional receptacle for the dryer. The only really restrictive use on laundry area receptacles circuits is that they must be 20A and they can't serve anything else BUT the laundry receptacles.
