Anderson windows

Teddy16March 24, 2012

I am looking to install the Anderson 400 series casement windows in my home. The windows will include the High-Performance Low-E4

Impact-Resistant Glass.

I want the glasses for noise reduction and for security.

My question is on the STC OITC rating. This window has an stc rating of 31 and a oitc of 27. The tested size for those rating are 31.5 x 71.9 in. I will be adding 2ft x 4ft casements. Will my stc / oitc rating be less or more, due the smaller windows.

Thank you

Teddy

It will be very close and perhaps a tiny bit higher.

I am guessing the STC/OITC data that you have is based on a double hung vs. the casements you are putting in. The materials and glass with have very similar noise transmission, however, the lack of a meeting rail in the casement will likely help with some of the conduction at the middle of the window.

Casements will also provide a more airtight seal which will also help with the noise transmission.
