NW Ohio Windows

erchphsFebruary 23, 2010

Mom lives in a 130 year old farm house in NW Ohio. The original windows are still in the house with aluminum storms over them. We would like to replace 5 windows at a time until we get all 15 done. The windows are tall 68 x 28 but narrow. Mom is 93 and we don't really want to put 50 year windows in the house, so we are looking for a decent window (anything would beat the old single panes in there now) that is a middle of the line window.

The windows I have looked at are as follows:

Wincore 5400 (139 each) all meets tax rebate standards

Simonton 5500 (169 each)

Polaris Ultraweld (no price yet)

Polaris Thermaweld (no price yet)

Vinylmax Easton (no price yet)

One estimate was for 85 dollars each to install the windows without any cladding and 120 each with metal cladding on the outside

Another estimate was for 340 dollars for Polaris Ultraweld with cladding and

some sort of insulation factory installed around the edges of the window.

We do not want to go too cheap but is it necessary to metal wrap around the outside of the windows?

Thanks in advance.
