Rehearsal Dinner

janice_2008April 17, 2008

My question to any of you helpful people is concerning the

actual rehearsal and the dinner afterward. Has anyone ever

worded your rehearsal invitation to ask the wedding party

be at the rehearsal and everyone else meet at the restaurant

at a designated time? Our wedding is rather small but there

will be quite a few invites to people who won't have a part

in the wedding.

I don't understand why you would want to have the rehearsal dinner begin at the same time as the rehearsal, particularly when the parents, who are the hosts, will be at the rehearsal. If you send one invitation to everyone stating the time of the dinner, you can include a note in the invitations going to the wedding party members asking them to meet at the rehearsal location an hour and a half before the dinner. That way, everyone will arrive for dinner at the same time.

We did that, but we used a shuttle to get the out of town guests to the boat where the dinner would be, which was a couple of towns away. So the rehearsal was one time, then everyone met at the shuttles to go to the dinner. The shuttle left from the hotel. Just word the invitation with the information about the time to meet at the restaurant. Don't tell anyone except the wedding party about the rehearsal, time, and location.

Thank you sheilajoyce. That was exactly what I needed. Our intention was to not have people standing around the rehearsal for no reason and just have them meet for dinner.
Your suggestion is perfect.

My vote would be, make the invitation for the dinner ONLY. (after all the rehearsal isn't a social event that you invite the wedding party to)

Then handwrite on the wedding party's rehearsal-dinner invitations, "see you at the church for rehearsal at 5:30" or whatever. Or, make your arrangements with them via e-mail or phone (as I said, the rehearsal is not a social event w/ invitations; it's more "work" or "obligation"; it just gets a "notification," not an "invitation")
