Bi-Fold Patio Doors

vampiressrnJanuary 3, 2010

I have an overhang area on the back of my home that could easily be enclosed to a garden room. I have a nice view and want to be able to see that out the back of my family room. I was thinking about glass bi-fold doors so wonder if anyone has experience with them. I am at the top of a canyon and it can get extremely windy, so I am concerned about that. I had a beautiful outdoor overhead fan that had the fan blades bent and torn off during a very windy storm...so the wind can be very strong. Also, would want the double-pane that has the mini-blinds built inside. Not planning on this right away, so any suggestions would be helpful in my research. I do want metal and have looked at this sight a lot.

You need to investigate the DP (Design Pressure) ratings of whichever door you choose as you have a high profile location. Without knowing specifics, I would recommend a minimum DP 40 unless you can handle some water infiltration (i.e. an interior hard surface such as tile or rock). A high DP rating and bi fold doors do not normally co-exist. Good luck!

Begin your search with NanaWall. I have no real-world experience with products as you describe, but this company seems to be a leader in folding patio door systems.
