Recycle Those Christmas Cards Like This!

kudzukweenNovember 6, 2008

Ok, so mine are decks of playing cards discarded from Imperial Palace casino :D But I like it anyway! Somewhere up in the attic is a storage box of Christmas things with my saved cards in it. This will be a beautiful way to use them.

Here is a link that might be useful: Kudzu's Blog

Are the circles folded so center is triangle? Think I remember folding them over edge of cookie sheet to get nice fold. Don't you mark them a little in 3 places? It's been so long I've forgotten but I think that is how you get all 3 sides the same so it fits together right. Could use wide (like2-3 in.) ruler made from metal to get the sides straight too. Get a kick out of your blog!! Jan

I made these as a child. Thanks for the reminder Kudzu!
Something else that I've done since I was a child is make gift tags from cards. My mom and I would cut them with pinking shears (2 layers any shape) and punch holes and thread with yarn. Now I go the lazy way and only cut where there is a fold and tape them to the gift (you open them up and write on the inside). I sit down after Christmas and make them right away while watching tv. Maybe I'll make a few balls too this year.

Thanks ya'll :D They are folded so center is a triangle. There is a link for directions, but I'm gonna need HossFly for his math skills to make me smaller patterns. Also gonna need to go buy some paper clips, because the bobby pins work, but they don't hold as tight. And ya know, I'm gonna have to go get myself one of those bone folders! Oh, and some cute scissors that cut decorative edges..this is the perfect excuse!
I've also found a cute pattern for angels made from recycled cards, and they're so precious. I was just waiting for a spare minute to make some. Maybe today, it's raining! If I don't get to in the next couple days I'll just go ahead and share the link without making one to go along with it :D
Making gift tags is a great idea, too!

I just read The Tightwad Gazette and the author had another suggestion for recycling Christmas cards. Cut off the front of the card with the picture and you now have Christmas postcards. Not only do you recycle the cards but you save money on buying new ones and postage.

I like the post card idea. Just address them this year so you don't accidentally send them back to the person you got them from, lol.
