Painting over finished metal ?

chickadee__3aSeptember 6, 2005

Last week I bought at a thrift store an old metal bread box. It's in good shape but I want to paint it, using my acrylic paints. Should it have a coat of primer first? I'm just not sure about the acrylic over the metal paint. Thanks all for any help.

I would sand it lightly, then prime with a metal primer and seal after painting with the acrylic......Lillie

Hi Chickadee. That bread box sounds like lots of fun to work on. I think Lillie gave you good advice. I lost your addy in a computer accident. LOL!! Good to see you are still around. Ever come my way? If so let me know. Marty in Ga.

Thanks to you both. I have been away for 2 weeks so I didn't have a chance to thank you. I picked up a can of primer so I'll be all set to go as soon as I get the time. I'm getting my winter projects lined up. No, Marty I rarely come your way unfortunately. The last time was about 3 or 4 years ago on the way to Florida.
