Distressing is Distressing!!!

zgardennutJune 17, 2007

I have a cabinet I made out of pine.

I want to paint it and make it look old.

I put a dark stain on it already and then a coat or two of paint........then what????

I see some that look like it is covered with stain again???

Could that be right?

how i distress....I paint the furniture heriloom white....after this I sand areas that I would think would have been nicked or bumped....then get a WATER base stain...not to dark...wipe it on, then wipe it off just as quick...you dont have to use white either....green sage and blue look awesome distressed to...when I use a barn yard red....sometimes I do a dry paint over it...take a brush dip it in a light brown paint rub until paint is almost dry on brush then apply...hope this helped a little...I love the distress look!

It does sound like you might be trying to paint over an oil based stain, which is why the paint is not covering the way you'd like. The oils in it prevent the paint from adhering properly. You might want to check on the can of stain and see.

Hang in there. You'll get it!
