Benjamin Moore advice for family room

Stephanie4908July 8, 2014

Hi! This is my first post here.

I am wanting to change the paint color in my family room from BM Cork to something more neutral. I love Cork, but in this room with very little natural light (only window faces directly west; adjacent sunroom steals even more light), it is too heavy and saturated.

Our furniture is traditional with earth-tone stripes. We have oak trim, which we are not painting white right now.

I have tried BM Powell Buff & Safari, but they are both too yellow. Wondering if I should try something more tan like Sandy Brown or something more white like Gentle Cream. Any other suggestions? It is tough with the oak trim, but I would really love a beautiful neural.

I say Gentle Cream, especially since it seems to be dark. Then, it can also help accentuate the oak trim. Found this example of the cream with oak items...hope that helps.

Taupes look good with unpainted wood trim, IMO.

BM Coastal Fog. It's a strange color, neither gray, green, beige, but can be amazing in the right light.

My entry and dining room receive little light, and they were painted BM Monroe Bisque. I really loved the color for many years. I needed a change and painted over it a few years ago, but I keep the color in my back pocket for future use. It looks warm and neutral--but still has some substance--in a space without natural light.
