What 'known' designer would you hire?

nini804July 20, 2012

If $ were no object...which well-known designer would you hire to design and decorate your home? There are several that I like, particularly Gerrie Bremerman but as far as someone that I think REALLY would get me...Phoebe Howard, hands down. Her blog makes me swoon...and I think her style would go so nicely in my home. She has a shop nearby...I am going to ask dh if I can use one of her staff to help me complete our master bedroom decoration as a Christmas gift. I know it isn't the same as having her do it...but as close as I can get, lol!

Which designer do you love?

Hey, can you all post pictures or links to the designer you would hire. It's informative to those of us who may not know who you are talking about.

What a great post! I visited sites for most of the designers mentioned and love their styles. Great choices. I'm familiar with Canadian designer and tv personality Sarah Richardson.

I second Sarah Richardson. Love how she combines old and new, and uses a lot of blue, green and cream.

The only way (as far as I know) to check out Dan Carithers (just one "r" in the name ....) is to google his work -- featured in magazines like Traditional Home ....

BTW -- IF we are allowed to choose "past" (LOL!) designers -- then I pick:

John Fowler

Another name that I forgot to mention above (and she is indeed very living and well! LOL!)

Suzanne Rheinstein

To see her work -- check out her book: 'At Home" -- a really outstanding design book!

This is fun to think about!

Charlotte Moss paired up with Billy Baldwin. Add a touch of Anna Spiro then mix in Leonardo da Vinci as the general manager.

I love Candice Olson for the same reason I used to love Christopher Lowell...they both understand lighting and how critical it is to making a room sparkle.

1st choice- Sarah Richardson...her farmhouse remodel is my favorite! I really like several of her rooms, but I'd have to put my foot down and say NO paisley! LOL

2nd choice- Candice Olson...the early seasons of the show. When she still decorated traditional homes, used layered window treatments, and cheerful colors :)

I can tell you who I wouldn't hire...Kaki Hockersmith. One good thing George W Bush did was bring the oval office back to tasteful decor post Clinton...I understand it took them all of 4 hours to get started, post inauguration.

Bush (Ken Blasingame):

Much prefer the Clinton-era Oval Office - depth of color, elegant proportions to the window treatments, personality in the art.

But to each their own - that is why there are so many choices out there!

1st Choice - Pal. Learned, creative, but also practical and open.

2nd Choice - Marcolo. Too scary.

Love Phoebe Howard.

Have to agree with Annie about that blue and yellow Oval Office decor.
Not good. In my opinion, the other one is much more tasteful and just feels more peaceful.

I hate politics.
But I love greens, landscapes, simplicity, and serenity.

Bunny Williams for her wealth of knowledge and flexibility, her color choices and the simple fact that she designs for the way people live. I.e. she knows people watch tv and will put one everywhere needed ( and doesn't hide them)

Good to read this thread. I thought about it all night. Who would I use? I seriously couldn't come up w/ an answer for the most part! I feel stuck in 'something' for some reason. I'm not seeing anything that excites me lately. Mostly due to lack of time anymore so I seem to only know all of the same old same old designers (not a bad thing in anyway - they're tried, true, tested and great!). I'm barely able to find time to get on the internet anymore to look for new designers and I'm tired of the same stuff in magazines to the point of cancelling almost all of them.

I've just seen a bunch of names tossed out that I am not familiar w/ so I am excited to go check out their work. Thank you!

I'm bored - I need inspired!

If Windsor Smith could do my home similar to this kitchen I'd be happy. I've coveted this kitchen since it first appeared on the Sept 2010? issue of HB:
