Epoxy grout for backsplash and staining concerns

GWloloMay 31, 2013

For those of you who used epoxy grout on the backsplash, how did you protect the countertop from stains. Especially for quartz, soapstone, marbel etc.

I am planning to use epoxy grout for my backsplash and my tile guy is very concerned about staining the countertop. I have soapstone and I know that the stain cannot penetrate. My tile guy does not trust that claim but he says stain on the surface is also a concern especially as I plan to leave my soapstone unoiled. Will painters tape be enough?

I'm a little confused. Your tile guy is worried about the grout staining the countertop? Just cover up the counter with plastic + paper, cardboard, a drop cloth, whatever. I actually covered out counters for our tile guy but I don't think he actually got anything on them.

Yes he is worried as the epoxy grout (Laticrete) is oily and can stain other unsealed sufaces. My soapstone is unsealed and is meant to be untreated
