Lotion Bar / Massage Candle For Sun Burns?

mistresseApril 26, 2010

Hi everyone,

I was looking for information on essential oils, ran across this forum, and have been reading it now for about 2 hours. I love this place!! I have a newby question and was wondering if someone could help.

I make lotion bars and massage candles as presents for friends and family. After our first bbq of the season, most of us are sporting pretty painful sunburned faces and shoulders. (most of us are red-heads and the effectiveness of sunscreen is a joke)

My sister asked me if I could make a lotion bar or massage candle that had the "cooling tingly" (or even numbing) properties of some of the expensive after-sun lotions out there, but that didn't stink like Ben-Gay. Any ideas would be greatly helpful. I am also in quite a bit of pain after the weekend and will try just about anything! :-)~

Thanks!

I really would not recommend a lotion stick for a sunburn at all. The cooling of menthol is great for muscle aches, but would probably not be good for red, raw skin. Plus, it would act as an insulator and keep heat in. Better to use some aloe gel.
