Prevent Doors from Slamming?

rsramirezDecember 2, 2008

Hi folks,

I moved into an area with seasonal high winds that causes many of the doors in my house to slam shut very hard.

Having had my finger slammed in a door as a teen, and a new baby on the way, I'm looking for a solution for the safety of the baby.

I would like to avoid those commercial looking door closers, as these would also be need for bedroom doors, and those door closers are a bit unsightly. In addition, I don't want the doors to automatically close - just not slam shut. I'm looking for a solution sort of like those soft-shutting cabinets.

Any other options?

Unless someone can advise you of a self closing type door hinge, you might consider these. They mount at the outer bottom of the door and flip up when closing. When the door is open, you flip it down and is kept by the floor.

This might do it. I believe it has a "stand open" mode and still prevents slamming but you'll probably have to buy one to see if it will do the job or call the company; it's not an easy thing to understand.
