Drywall Repairs

snookums2December 8, 2011

I've got someone repairing drywall. The tape is lifting off in a lot of places. My understanding this means not enough mud underneath and it needs retaping. My question is, if just a little bit along the edge is lifted on part of some runs, what should be done?

If the pulled up lip is 1/8" or less, cut it out with a utility blade knife. If it's larger, sometimes you can get under it with your drywall blade, lift it up, get some mud under it, (this time make sure you have it completely mudded), and wipe it flat.

If your finisher is having trouble embedding the tape coat, I'd be concernrd about the outcome of the finish coats as well.

Thank you. This is exactly where I'm going with this. I'm afraid to have him continue with the wall that needs to be boarded and with nail pops and other repairs since their work doesnâÂÂt always come out smooth. Most of the tape theyâÂÂve put on repairing cracks throughout the house is lifting. Apparently they do not do much drywall work although they did say they did it when I asked about having those repairs done. Some completed areas in the kitchen would be unacceptable and troubling to anyone, imo. Two other rooms are looking good for the most part, as far as I know.
