I have been single for over35 years.During my early years it did not bother me to be alone. As I approach my older years and most of my friends have died or are in nursing homes I begin to feel lonely. How do I make Friends at this age?

Right here is a good start! My 77-year-old widowed mother was introduced to the internet about five years ago. She now uses it to keep up with two of her hobbies: NASCAR and "Days of Our Lives."

I took a peek at your member page. You enjoy the House Plants forum? I'll bet you'd also enjoy the Garden Party. Follow the link...

Welcome, Goldy.

Red Hat Society is another option.

Come hang out on the cooking forum, friendly folks of all ages who either love to cook, pretend they cook, or just love to eat.

My "roommate", Michelle, retied from teaching not long before we moved here to Bastrop. She has joined a few volunteer groups, like the library, and has made some nice friends already.

Do you like a particular type of gardening or other interest? IÂm sure there are garden clubs that specialize in particular type plants. Ever thought about taking up golf? Bowling? Ice hockey?

Is there some type of religious community you could join--church, synagouge, meeting house? I know a lot of my older neighbors find a lot of support from their churches. Also, my dad loves to go to the senior center in my hometown. He's very social and there's a neat community there, at least that particular one. I think it can vary.
