adjusting the timing on my Brother VX-1120

elijacobJune 21, 2013

I threw the timing off on my Brother VX-1120 home sewing machine by turning the wheel too forcefully when my needle had gotten stuck in fabric and thread. Now, the hook passes across the needle opening when the needle is too high, therefore my top thread is not getting hooked and not picking up my bobbin thread.

I tried to adjust the timing. It looks like I may have to do this by accessing the parts that are towards the back of the machine. The cover is in a clamshell configuration. I was able to remove the front art of the cover, but couldn't figure out how to remove the back part.

Does anyone know how to remove the back cover of this machine, or better yet, does anyone know how to adjust the timing? It doesn't seem like it should be this difficult.

FYI: I am new to sewing machines, and know next to nothing about them. I'm just kind of figuring it out as I go.

Well, you are very brave--especially as you say you know nothing about sewing machines. I let my repair person do timing adjustment.. I would not know where to begin. I wish you much good luck!

Thanks, dancingirl. I bought this machine for $50, and the fun I get from tinkering with it is worth that.

Most folks take their machines into a reputable sewing machine service to have the timing fixed. It is not a diy fix,and you will probably do more harm than good.Jmo

timing has to be set by a repair man.. especially a home machine. I have commercial machines, but learned to set the timing on one... There are 2 places to set from below getting the bobbin hook timed right... But it's possible to also knock out the needle bar timing. takes a repairman
