Drilling through Hardiplank - dangerous?

pbx2_gwOctober 28, 2013

I'm trying to hang a sensor operated flood light on my garage which has Hardiplank siding.

Read that there is some asbestos like dust is inherent in hardiplank.

Any feedback or direction would be greatly appreciated in this area!

The siding has masonary products in it so the same precautions should be taken as while drilling concrete. Either keep the bit wet or wear a dust mask while drilling. There is no asbestos in the siding.

Maybe concrete dust----but a simple dust mask is enough protection.

I've cut Hardi siding with a circular saw---nasty job, lots of dust. Actually used a fan once---fan behind me---no dust problems.
