Need help with Applique

crafty84caMarch 23, 2009

I am in the process of making a quilt with applique. This is my first time doing a quilt in this manner. I cut out all the pieces and ironed them onto the background square. My problems began when I tried to machine embroidery using the blanket stitch around each applique. My thread breaks and my needle gums up.. I guess I used the wrong type of fusable bond. I have a lot of applique to do so I need some advice on how to enable me to finish this project. I have changed and cleaned the needle conituously. Thanks

Rather than using fusible bond, try a temporary spray glue. It works wonderfully and doesn't gum up the machine! I use the Sulky KK2000. Yes, it is pricey.

There is a quilting forum here, with lots of people who do applique.

It does sound like you used the wrong fusible for the application.
