Is there a way to test transmitters for openers?? have changed batteries and went through recoding, etc, but transmitter will not open the door (manual wall button does just fine).

There is no way other than an opener. Maybe a neighbor with the same model as yours would let you see if it will program to theirs. The problem is if you only have one transmitter you don't know if it is that or the receiver. You could get some idea by pressing the button on the transmitter and watching the LED on the back of the motor unit. If your transmitter is putting out the LED will flash rapidly. You could see if your neighbors does the same or acts differently without actually programming their opener.
