Removing asphalt from driveway

mooieJune 8, 2009

My driveway was asphalted years ago (before me) by a group of fly by nighters looking to dump their load. It looks like it's about 3" high in some places especially up by the garage door apron. I was wondering how one went about removing the old stuff. To me, it looks like you could get under it with a loader, but I'm not sure how bad it would mess up the concrete underneath. Has anyone done this or how did you remove your old asphalt while saving the original driveway? Thanks!

If they asphalted over concrete then the concrete is likely not in good shape. If there is no concrete then a loader can just get under it and lift it. If there is concrete it can likely be lifted off but the concrete will probably be stained or marked by the tar.
