Where to find stair parts?

mlutzDecember 28, 2007

Hello I am looking to replace the stairs in my house with oak treads, risers, newels and so on. Can someone give me any websites of companies that you have used and liked? I know I can google and search and find some, but I would like to have some sites of places that people on here have bought from and liked the results.

Thanks,

Mark

Local lumberyard, hands down. You can see the material and get better service/help.

I'm another hands down vote for the local lumberyard. However, LJ Smith has a website with some photos and many sketches of parts.

LJ Smith is one of the brands regularly carried at the local lumber yard.
I agree - stairs are more tricky than they look - go to the local lumber yard.

I found that lumberyards usually have a very limited selection. I've order stair supplies from the first website listed below and was very happy. (gorgeous box newels.)

I've also added other websites that had been suggested to me (although I haven't personally had any experiences with them)

http://www.stairtrends.com/

http://www.stairpartsusa.com/
http://www.stairsupplies.com/eng
http://www.stairwarehouse.com/hardware.html

Crown Heritage is one supplier/importer. Many local lumberyards sell that brand as does Lowes. But Crown Heritage does not respond to problems.

Thanks for the updates. I like the websites because I don't have a lumberyard close to me that carries these products. I have a lowes and home depot but they really don't have a big supply. I am thinking of building my own bow newels, treads, risers, and buying the handrail and ballusters.
