I need to replace rusted hinges on external doors in a coastal area. Is stainless steel the best option from a rust point of view? If so, where is the best place to buy them in bulk - I may need up to sixty hinges in total.

Many thanks in advance.

try a marine store. Don't they use brass on boats?

Hinges made with type 304 stainless are readily available from Lowes, HD, Amazon etc for $6-12 each. If you are in serious salt spray you probably need to go for the more corrosion-resistant type 316 SS as is used on boats, which will probably cost 2-4 x more.

Google 'stainless steel butt hinge' to find many options, adding 316 to find the rarer more corrosion resistant ones. 60 probably isn't enough to qualify as "bulk" from any maker-- you're stuck with the retail outlets.

Thanks for the suggestions. I was afraid 60 would be too little!!

Thanks also for the advice on 304 vs 316 stainless steel. I had only seen 304 so far.
