Help with paint/stain - doors and stairs

MrsShayneJuly 19, 2014

Hello. A little less than a year ago I got new hardwood installed. I ripped out the orange oak in my foyer and ending up putting almost 1000 sq ft of a darker birch hardwood in. Well my doors off the office and staircase are lighter and I think clash with the floors. I should also mention that I use to have ugly faux brown wood looking trim and faux wood color doors. We replaced the baseboard with white and I've been painting my faux doors white. Now, I'm wondering what to do with my real wood in my house. Should I paint or stain these? I don't want to paint white so I was thinking just a darker shade to match some of the floor. Any thoughts or ideas?

I painted my kitchen cabinets a while back, and now I'm painting all the doors. It's a lot of work but I enjoy it for the most part.

Thank you :)

i think i would definitely paint the doors and door trim the white color.
i would probably try to darken the stain color on the banisters and newel posts... possibly paint the spindles white, tho i am kindof tired of the white spindle look myself....

Beautiful floors! I love the color. The changes you've made look great so far.. but I would never, ever paint real wood! I think the doors/stairs would look wonderful stained a darker color to match the floors.
