did I ruined a support Joist?

skydriver12April 1, 2013

I had a contractor come to install a wire in my house from 1st floor to basement's power box. he drilled a hole that edged the side of the joist next to the floor wall. It is a townhouse(with houses on both sides to my). Is the wall in danger of collapse? the drilled hole is about 1 inch or so and the joist is a 9 1/2 inch x 2 1/2 inch. What should I do?

Nah, that one hole is not going to affect anything.

What's up with the post & screws? Did you install that for more joist support?

And regarding that post and screws, those look like drywall screws which are too brittle to be used for any kind of structural purpose.

Thanks for your helpful replies. The wood under the joist is about
8 inches and serves no support purposes, its just put there awhile back.
