Adjusting cabinet hinges....door is sagging.

keckMarch 15, 2006

I have exposed kitchen cabinet door hinges. There is a picture of what they look like on which I have attached a link to.

The problem is that the bottom part of the door slides back towards the hinge too much -- as if the screws aren't holding. The door needs to be furhter from the bottom hinge than the top hinge so it hangs straight. The hinges are replacements that I installed awhile back -- I replaced the old brass ones with brushed nickel. Cabinets are six years old and red oak. I only have this problem on the doors above the fridge and microhood and haven't been able to resolve it.

How can I fix this?

On the part of the hinge that attached to the stile, not the door, you should be able to remove the screws, and shim with cereal box cardboard and move the door.

Yes, shims will work in that position. I prefer strips of formica. It doesn't change with the weather and humidity.
