Which Entry Door Manufacturer ????

counselor4444October 9, 2012

Hi all,

We are looking to purchase a new front door for our house. We have a budget but don't want something that is going to warp and split in a few years either. I have read a lot of threads in his forum on issues with different fiberglass door manufacturers. I am having a hard time deciding what to get. The choices: Feather River, Jeld-Wen, or Thermatru manuactured by a local mill called Reeb. (all sold by HD). Any thoughts? And are there more issues with a faux wood look door versus a smooth finish door? Thanks so much!!!!

Personally I cannot recommend Jeldwen anything, Feather River or any millwork from HD, Lowes or a box store. Therma Tru assembled by Reeb Millwork would be my choice by try a real lumberyard. As far as smooth or woodgrain there are no inherent issues with one over the other as far as I am concerned or know of.

I have two therma tru doors and a Pro Via door. I have had no problems with any of them and appearance wise they are great also. Would highly recommend either of those manufacturers.

Unfortunately i have priced doors at local mills and they are way outside my budget. So these are my options. I also don't know if we should get fiberglass or steel since we are south facing and the door does not have an overhang. Anyone else care to comment?

Either or in a minimum quality of Therma Tru should be fine. There is a reason if a box store is that much cheaper on Therma Tru products and the reason is not always a good one for the consumer. I said it before and will say it again "stay away from Jeldwen and Feather River" if you want a quality product.
