Adding a Portico

ladybuggyApril 30, 2009

I would like to add a portico on my colonial flat front house. I'm not sure who I contact to have this done. Do I start by going to an architect for drawings or do I hire a contractor to build based on photos I have of what I would like.

I would appreciate if someone could guide me in the right direction.

Before you spend a cent on a designer, check with your municipality regarding zoning and setback requirements.

If this is a city lot, you may be restricted as to what can be added without a variance.

You will also likely require a building permit, so you can check on that at the same time.
