Introduction and Child's Room

ThreeBeezJune 30, 2013

Hello. I have been following and learning here for quite some time. You've had so many beautiful projects and engaging discussions, not to mention interesting real estate postings.

My twins have decided they want their own rooms, so we are in the process of getting them both comfortably set up. We also knew they would be needing desks. Dh found some at an estate sale, but any alteration of them will be up to me. I'm posting the first one, and looking for advice on how hard this may be to strip and repaint, and how much talent one must have to do so. Any advice, inspiration or cautionary tale is welcome.

I've followed the chalk paint posts with interests, but admit that this will be my first project of this sort. I've got additional photos, but did not know how to post more than one.

Thank you.

I really like them just the way they are. I would use them as a starting point and decorate around them. You didn't say if the twins were boys or girls though. What style is your home?

Yes, very pretty as is...I would decorate around them..easier to repaint the walls than refinish two desks!

Thanks, Angel and Joaniepoanie.

I don't mind this look at all (and the curves match the current dresser in that room), however, it is pretty beaten up. But, then again, I guess a seven year old will not hurt it any in this condition. I think I can try and work with this, but wondered if "okay" could be "great" in a finished product.

They are both girls, and in the interest of speed, they've opted not to have us paint just yet. I have them perusing allposters for prints, overstock, and looking at fabric, etc. seeking inspriation. One seems to be headed in a sea-creature /beach direction (and that is thankfully the blue room with blue desk).

The other desk is different, and I personally love it. I'll post it as we move to the other room.

The strangest part is giving up some of the control. Their preferences, color choices, etc. have to be taken into account, but they can't see the whole picture yet, nor do they realize they have to choose things that will carry them forward for a while.

Thanks for your help.
