Satchel Strap Help Please

wynativeAugust 26, 2011

My sister wants me to make her a 'satchel' to carry her little dog around in while walking the bigger dogs. Chico's little feet freeze in the winter :(

My problem: I need help with the strap's. I am worried that they will tear out, over time from the weight.

Any one made something like this? and what did you do?

I have not made a satchel, but what if you were to run the straps all the way around the bottom of the tote?

I got this bag years ago & while this tote's strap doesn't go ALL the way around, it is long and stitched into the bottom section of the bag. I has carried loads of stuff and has held up well. Good luck Marie!

1.5" or 1.25" nylon strapping will work. If you run it all the way around the bottom you'll never have to worry about it tearing out.

I agree, be sure the straps go completely around to support the bottom. It would also be more comfortable if there were a firm bottom.

Thanks ladies :) I love the idea of them going all the way around and using nylon. I plan to use a pretty firm piece of card board in the bottom, denim on the outside and fleece on the inside.

thanks for the tips!

Buy some marine webbing - choice of colors, weights and widths.
very strong - also look at the buckles & the mesh
The link is to a great source - also look at the tutorials on the bags. These are great people - happy customer.
Gotta go - Irene
