Bali Pops / Strip Quilt Question

K8OrlandoJuly 24, 2011

I finally got my hands on a Bali Pops package that I've been searching for, so it's time to choose a pattern. I like all the colors of the batik Bali Pops sets but wanted the jewel tones of the package called Strawberry Fields. I can't believe I finally found it, years after it was retired! Woo hoo for me!

So, what's your favorite quilt pattern using pre-cut strips / jelly rolls? I'm thinking of combining the one I have with a lighter colored package (Sherbet, if I can find it, or Cotton Candy) and doing a log cabin. I like the layout with the star in the center and concentric diamonds around it. Or a big applique in the center of the concentric diamonds. Or that great batik rectangle pattern that looks like the tops of kleenex boxes. But there are so many beautiful ways to use these strip. Any suggestions? This is probably going to be a sofa quilt for my family room so something dramatic would be fun.

Your ideas sound interesting. I have given some thought to using strips in a barbello quilt. Not sure they would work but may give it a try. Like the pattern that was in the BHG Patchwork issue #111 Aug.
Love the bali jelly rolls.

Log cabin is what came to my mind as well. In fact, I found a pattern, but have yet to find the 'right' jelly roll for it.

There are a zillion patterns! Overwhelming for sure. I have used the Bali pops ( or strips) for 3 quilts recently.
Look at Hoffman's website, Missouri Quilts (Summer in the Park is one I want to make) and Cozy quilts - see link below.
You don't need the ruler if you have a 12.5" square for the tube quilts, but someday I may treat myself to one, as I keep buying the Bali Pops! Not only did I use regular fabric in addition to the Bali Pops, but I pulled out strips that weren't the perfect colors and cut my own, or I mixed some up.
I especially like Tradewinds (which I was able to find free on the internet by looking really hard)
I find the Strips are great for people like me who do not have much fabric stored.

Thanks for the link. I have seen many of these and already have a few on my consideration list: Hanging Gardens, Ripple Effect and Transitions.

Ooo! I love French Braids! The Hanging Gardens quilt pattern goes together a bit like a French Braid too.
