Alternative Flooring Ideas

SkySnavApril 26, 2013

Me and my husband have decided to do a small cosmetic fix on our VERY outdated home. We are trying to do it inexpensively, I have found a love a few ideas, like brown paper floor, white plastic floor and a few others. When I saw the white plastic floor I loved the idea for my childrens room with some coating on top no need for crayons in my house. It pulled the light bulb string in my brain... What about knotty pine or some other wood looking shelf liner on the floor with some coating on top. Would this work, and would it cost more than I am thinking it would? Thanks ahead of time, we are new to this.

I've looked into MDO as flooring, but have not seen it in person. It's supposedly the stuff they use for outdoor signs, so durable in that way, but I'm not sure how the "wear layer" will hold up. Maybe with another layer of coating for protection? There's a house on Whidbey Island that used it, you can find it with a google search if you are interested. It was cut down into what looks like huge tiles. I think it looked a lot better than shelf liner would.
